How to Fix the Gap Under The Garage Door
Your garage should be a haven for your car or anything else that you keep inside of it. However, if there’s a gap between the bottom of your garage door and the floor, it’s almost as if you’re leaving your garage door open all day and night. Even a gap of less than an inch can lead to serious problems for your car and your belongings. When there’s a gap between your garage door and the floor, unwanted elements from outside have an invitation to come in and wreak havoc. Rainwater and melting snow can leak into your garage and soak your belongings. Dirt and leaves can be blown in by the wind and create more work for you when cleaning up your garage. Cold air can enter and raise your heating bills, or your costly air conditioning can escape during the summer. A garage door gap means your garage can become a breeding ground for insects and rodents. What’s more, it’s just plain unattractive and hurts your home’s curb appeal.
The good news is, if you have a garage door gap to fix, GaraDry® has the solution for you. Our garage door seal products can fix the gap between your garage door and the floor to create a weatherproof barrier that will help protect your garage and everything in it. We offer a full line of garage door weather seals for residential and commercial applications in multiple sizes. Our seals are made from durable and flexible thermoplastic materials in the case of our residential products, and robust aluminium in the case of our commercial products. No matter what type of garage door you have or how big the gap, GaraDry® has a product that can meet your needs.
THE MOST COMPLETE PROTECTION FOR YOUR GARAGE
Our seals work by creating a watertight seal between the garage door and the floor. Because not all garage doors or gaps are created equal, be sure to determine exactly what you need before installing your GaraDry® garage door seals. Follow the steps below and feel free to refer to our buying guide for more information.
-
MEASURE THE GAP.
First, you’ll need to measure the gap you want to seal. Because garage floors typically aren’t completely level, you should measure the gap in several places across the threshold to make sure you buy the seal that will completely close the gap everywhere. For garage floors that are very uneven or ones that slope, GaraDry’s Ramp Design seal or our 1 ½” Flood Barrier/Flood Diverter provides the best level of protection. If you live in an area where flooding or heavy storms are frequent, you may want to choose a higher seal to provide additional protection for your garage. A taller seal can sit slightly behind your garage door to allow it to close properly.
-
MEASURE YOUR GARAGE DOOR’S WIDTH.
Determining the length of the seal your garage door will need is as simple as measuring the width of your garage door. Our thermoplastic garage door seals can be cut to the proper length using a hacksaw, utility knife or even a sharp pair of scissors. You can choose to fit the seal from wall to wall if you want additional protection.
-
SEAL YOUR GARAGE DOOR.
Finally, installing your seal is a matter of determining where the seal will fit snugly behind the door to create the watertight seal necessary to protect your garage. The bottom edges of our thermoplastic seals are serrated to ensure the strongest bonding to the adhesive. Meaning, your new GaraDry® garage door seals will stay put for as long as you need.

Hello RIck, for a 9" gap the best option would be to extend them by adding more wood. Once the gap is 2" or less you could use one of our threshold seals to create an effective barrier

Can I paint over the exterior yellow warning line? My garage floor has a gap that slopes towards a two inch gap in the middle of the opening. The yellow warning line is uneven and looks weird from the outside.

Yes, installation ideally needs to be 40 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The adhesive should be kept in the house until installation is ready to begin.
